Mapping Monumental Art in Latin America
Across Latin America, monumental art became part of the architecture of everyday life. Murals, mosaics, reliefs, stained glass and ceramic compositions occupy schools, universities, civic buildings, cultural institutions and urban spaces throughout the region.
The scale and diversity of this heritage makes it a vast field of exploration.
Mexico
Mexico is the first destination in this programme.
A growing map brings together monumental artworks identified across the country, connecting their physical locations with photographic documentation and available information about their authors, dates, techniques and architectural settings.
Rather than presenting the works as isolated objects, the map allows them to be viewed as part of the cities and environments for which they were created. The map is continuously expanding.

Beyond Mexico
The Mexican map is the first step towards a wider geographical picture.
Further locations across Latin America will gradually be added, creating opportunities to compare artistic traditions, materials, techniques and approaches to integrating art into architecture across different countries.
The objective is not to impose a single narrative on Latin American monumental art, but to make its remarkable variety easier to discover.
